BIO
Rashawn Davis is a nonprofit leader, writer, and public speaker committed to strengthening democracy, advancing civic technology, and inspiring public leadership. Rashawn’s journey into public service began early. At just 21 years old, he became one of the youngest individuals ever to qualify for the Newark municipal election ballot, running a grassroots campaign for City Council. Although he did not win, the experience fueled his lifelong dedication to empowering communities and building more inclusive civic systems.
Rashawn has held leadership roles across the nonprofit, technology, and public sectors. As Executive Director of The Andrew Goodman Foundation, he worked with student leaders across the country to expand civic participation and protect voting rights. At Change.org, he led the organization's Racial Justice Labs, investing $6 million into Black and Brown changemakers nationwide. This work received Honorable Mention from Fast Company's World Changing Ideas Awards. Rashawn’s public service includes a mayoral appointment to Newark’s historic Police Review Board. As a public speaker, he has shared insights on democracy, leadership, and innovation with audiences at universities, public agencies, and private companies. He holds a bachelor's degree in Government from Georgetown University and a master's degree in Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy from New York University's Wagner School. Rashawn also serves on the Board of Directors for the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute at Princeton University.
